Miners Foundry Presents: The Polish Ambassador @ Miners Foundry Cultural Center
Oct 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

The Polish Ambassador

October 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

 $27 – $32

The Miners Foundry is pleased to present The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.  Pulling from over a decade of musical styles and nuances explored by TPA, combined with the lush instrumentation of 3 seasoned instrumentalists, The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal are closing the gaps between live and electronic music.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.  Standing / dancing show with limited seating.  Tickets are $27 in Advance and $32 at the Door.  Tickets may be purchased online, by phone, or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.  Ticketing fees don’t apply for purchases made by phone or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office.

After a cornucopia of albums and countless gigs around the world, The Polish Ambassador has docked the mothership outside the embassy; a fitting stop for a Diplomatic Scandal to unfold.  An amalgamation of funky beats, retro synths, and live instrumentation make up the bulk of this controversial saga.  David Sugalski aka The Polish Ambassador first happened across special agent Ryan Herr (guitar, percussion) in 2015 while traveling the high terrain of Colorado.  After a few years of scheming, planning and interstellar travels, the 2 comrades chanced upon special agents Tyson Leonard (violin) and Jesse James (sax and flute).  Before long, the 4 intergalactic men of mystery had synthesized their scandalous affairs into musical form.  Pulling from over a decade of musical styles and nuances explored by TPA, combined with the lush instrumentation of 3 seasoned instrumentalists, The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal are closing the gaps between live and electronic music.

Nov 7 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Foundry Sings

November 7 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

 $10

The rafters of the 158 year old Stone Hall at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center will ring on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.!  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the singing begins at 6:00 p.m.  Rod Baggett, choral conductor at Nevada Union High School and Seven Hills Middle School, along with multi-instrumentalist and singer Jonathan Meredith, will lead voices unified in song.  This unique countrywide experience aims to gather people of all ages and singing levels under one roof to share in the power of song.  The Foundry Sings is inspired by the popular Choir! Choir! Choir!, a weekly drop-in singing event based in Toronto, Canada, which has attracted professional musicians such as Rufus Wainwright to sing with the group.  Admission is a $10 suggested donation or if you join as a recurring member at $7.50/month, you will be able to attend all Foundry Sings events for free during 2018.  Tickets may be purchased online, or by phone and in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.  Ticketing fees do not apply for purchases made by phone or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office.

How It Works

When attendees arrive, they are given a lyric sheet to a popular contemporary song.  Attendees do not need to know how to read music, Rod Baggett and Jonathan Meredith will teach vocal arrangement and lead practices.  At the end of the evening everyone joins together to sing the song.  The performance is filmed and posted on YouTube.  Everyone has a grand time and goes home feeling great!  Several special guest performers will be joining in on the fun.

The quarterly event is a fundraiser for the Miners Foundry Cultural Center’s building improvement fund.  For nearly 160 years the historic Miners Foundry Cultural Center has been the hub of arts, culture, and community in Nevada County.  Each year over 400 events are hosted in our beautiful halls including signature events presented by the Miners Foundry.  Individually, these events represent how diverse the arts are in our community, and together they make up the rich cultural fabric we have come to enjoy for generations.

Still fiercely independent and headlining venues from The Fillmore to Carnegie Hall, Martin Sexton has influenced a generation of contemporary artists.  His songs have appeared on television in shows such as ScrubsParenthoodMasters of Sex and in numerous films, though it’s his incendiary live show, honest lyrics, and vocal prowess that keep fans coming back for a new experience every time.
