Earles of Newtown & Royal Jelly Jive

August 24 @ 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm

 $20 – $25

The Miners Foundry is pleased to present the Earles of Newtown and Royal Jelly Jive on Friday, August 24, 2018.  Local favorites Earles of Newtown feature elements of New Orleans horns, rockabilly guitar, and stride piano which come together to create a high-energy vibe.  “San Francisco Soul” is the best way to describe Royal Jelly Jive’s unique and intoxicating sound.  Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the music begins at 8:30 p.m.  General Admission tickets are $20 in Advance and $25 at the Door.  Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.  Ticketing fees do not apply to purchases made in person or by phone through the Miners Foundry Box Office.

Earles of Newtown is an eclectic 8 piece band featuring 8 vibrant and expressive soloists.  The music we refer to as Dixie Rag Funk-Jazz is originally composed, dance orientated and spans genres through prohibition era jazz, funk, dance grooves, and electro swing.  The Earles original compositions present elements of New Orleans horns, rockabilly guitar, and stride piano coming together to complete a circusy high-energy vibe that is inspired by dance club and Burning Man culture.

“San Francisco Style” is the best term Royal Jelly Jive can find in describing their unique and intoxicating sound.  Led by dynamic front-woman Lauren Bjelde, this sultry sextet rocks into unchartered musical territories with their infectious blend of modern and throwback sensibilities.

Armed with retro horns, razor-sharp beats, and groovy songs that are near impossible to resist, RJJ can pair with your fancy cocktail at that smoky jazz club or shake up even the funkiest dance party.

Miners Foundry Presents: Reader's Theater @ Miners Foundry Cultural Center

The Miners Foundry will present Tim O’Connor’s Reader’s Theater on Sunday, August 26, 2018.

Reader’s Theater has been called Story Time for Grown Ups, or Theatre of the Mind, and gained popularity during World War II when large stage plays were too expensive to produce. Using minimal props, the actor and your imagination illustrate the story. Directed by Gaylie Bell-Stewart, the show will offer the best short stories of Bret Harte, and feature performances by Shawnna Frazer, Bruce Kelly, Paul Miscan, and John Gardiner.

Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the show begins at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available online, in person or by phone at the Miners Foundry, and in person at Briar Patch C0-Op. Ticketing fees do not apply for purchases made through the Miners Foundry Box Office.

A master of the slack key guitar, Led Kaapana has been one of Hawai’i’s most influential musicians for four decades.  His mastery of stringed instruments, exceptional picking style on slack key guitar and ‘ukulele, and extraordinary baritone to leo ki’ eki’e (falsetto) vocal range, have made him a musical legend.  In 2011, he was honored with an NEA National Heritage Fellowship.

Led is joined by longtime collaborator Mike Kaawa, Hawai’i’s finest 12 string guitar player and one of its most highly regarded musicians.  Known as “The Hawaiian Boy”, he describes his music as “Hawaiian with attitude”.  Mike Kaawa is the perfect match for Led.  Since they began performing together in the early 2000s, they have ccrafteda remarkable musical rapport much like jazz musicians’ improvisations with each other.

Miners Foundry Presents: The Polish Ambassador @ Miners Foundry Cultural Center
Oct 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

The Polish Ambassador

October 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

 $27 – $32

The Miners Foundry is pleased to present The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.  Pulling from over a decade of musical styles and nuances explored by TPA, combined with the lush instrumentation of 3 seasoned instrumentalists, The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal are closing the gaps between live and electronic music.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.  Standing / dancing show with limited seating.  Tickets are $27 in Advance and $32 at the Door.  Tickets may be purchased online, by phone, or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.  Ticketing fees don’t apply for purchases made by phone or in person at the Miners Foundry Box Office.

After a cornucopia of albums and countless gigs around the world, The Polish Ambassador has docked the mothership outside the embassy; a fitting stop for a Diplomatic Scandal to unfold.  An amalgamation of funky beats, retro synths, and live instrumentation make up the bulk of this controversial saga.  David Sugalski aka The Polish Ambassador first happened across special agent Ryan Herr (guitar, percussion) in 2015 while traveling the high terrain of Colorado.  After a few years of scheming, planning and interstellar travels, the 2 comrades chanced upon special agents Tyson Leonard (violin) and Jesse James (sax and flute).  Before long, the 4 intergalactic men of mystery had synthesized their scandalous affairs into musical form.  Pulling from over a decade of musical styles and nuances explored by TPA, combined with the lush instrumentation of 3 seasoned instrumentalists, The Polish Ambassador and The Diplomatic Scandal are closing the gaps between live and electronic music.
