The Summer Nights in Nevada City celebration, a street festival of art and music, has been an annual tradition in this quaint, scenic, historic – and sometimes quirky – community, for close to thirty years. The 2018 event takes place on three Wednesday evenings, July 11th, 18th, and 25th.

During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area. Hours are 6-9:30 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Three Wednesday Nights in July — the best FREE entertainment for the whole family!

Spend your hot summer nights on the streets of Nevada City celebrating the 28th annual Summer Nights. Wednesday evenings in July are a vacation for the entire family, with bands playing on special stages while children whoop it up on a Bounce House. With free nightly events throughout our downtown historic district, attendees are certain to find something to entertain and delight them.

Summer Nights visitors can enjoy a meal at one of our many and varied restaurants, unwind with some live music or just relax with a leisurely stroll around our stores and the top class craftsmen selling their wares on the street. “Summer Nights is a Nevada City tradition – the whole town comes alive,” says Cathy Whittlesey, Director of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce which sponsors and produces the events. “It’s the must-attend event of the summer season — a real community party, showing off the best of Nevada City.” Here are our recommendations for the best ways to make the most of Nevada City’s Summer Nights:

Fabulous Music!  Put on your dancing shoes and come on out. Don’t miss these great free concerts!

Kid Friendly Fun! Summer Nights is for everyone. There are bounce houses, face-painting and more to make sure that kids will have a great time at this family affair.

Eat and Drink with Friends and Family! Enjoy a meal at one of Nevada City’s fine restaurants, ice cream from our local stores, delicious treats from our Food Court or just hang out at our beer and wine garden listening to great live bands. There’s food for all tastes and pocketbooks at Summer Nights.

Crafts and Art! Town will be filled with arts and crafts booths featuring cool, one-of-a-kind gifts designed and produced by local artists and crafters as well as hand-picked out-of-town vendors. If you’re looking for summer gifts, Summer Nights is the perfect place to come.

Special Additions! A Classic Car Show every week. And don’t miss the exotic music and dance of Troupe Al Ama Belly dancers!

Take the Shuttle
Drop your group off in town and then park your car and catch the Shuttle from the Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City CA 95959.
Shuttle costs $5 for adults and children 15 and over. Children under 15 ride free. Return journeys are free for all.
Shuttle hours are 5:30-10:00 pm each Wednesday.

Nevada City is located at the 2,500-foot elevation on the forested western slope of the Sierra Nevada. Summer days and evenings are cooler than in the Sacramento Valley.

From Sacramento, take eastbound Interstate 80 to Auburn and Highway 49 north to Nevada City. It’s a one-hour drive from the capital. From Marysville and the north valley, take eastbound Highway 20. From Reno and Lake Tahoe, take westbound I-80 and state route 20.

The Summer Nights celebration is sponsored by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. For information, call (530) 265-2692 or (800) 655-NJOY.

The First Friday Art Walk is a celebration of Nevada City’s diverse mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, as well as our wonderfully artistic and creative community. Participating Downtown businesses will be open from 5 pm to 9 pm and many will host “receptions” with local artists, trunk shows, and/or performances. Many shops are also offering snacks and beverages as well as sales and specials only valid for the event.

It really is a perfect evening event for the family or a great “date night” destination bringing a celebratory energy to Downtown Nevada City while encouraging folks to visit our wonderful businesses while enjoying the art and culture that makes Nevada City so unique.

There will be live music and theatrical performances at various locations throughout the downtown area. In addition, there will be a Youth Arts Showcase featuring Artists between the ages of 4-18 with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses, as well as a “Kids Zone” on York Street with some fun activities and art projects for kids of all ages.

Nevada City is a Tapestry of Charming and Quaint
Nevada City’s Victorian elegance provides the perfect backdrop to showcase Uncorked, an annual celebration of wine and food. Uncorked is a sip-and-stroll event that includes 17 venues featuring local food purveyors and regional wineries. Each venue, whether it’s a historic location, inn, art gallery, restaurant, winery, shop, or secret hideaway will include wine tasting and food sampling.

Gateway To The Wines Of The North Country
Uncorked is proud to showcase the wines of the northern Sierra Foothills. We fondly refer to it as “wines from the northern frontier”, the best, least-discovered wine region in California. This year Uncorked features wineries from Placer, Nevada, Yuba, Butte, and Tehama Counties. From Albarino to Zinfandel, Uncorked offers a unique gateway to the wines from the north country.
A Smorgasbord of Flavor
Restaurants, caterers, and specialty shops as diverse as a salumeria, a cheesemaker, and a chocolatier will offer an array of tasty bites and signature flavors. Uncorked encourages a connection, as much as possible, between local farms and participating food purveyors.
This year we are adding two new events to the schedule.
Winemaker Reception
We are adding a Winemaker Reception at Nevada City Winery. This is an opportunity to meet a few winemakers in a casual, informal setting. Open to the public, there is no charge to attend the reception. If you think you will attend the reception be sure to check the box on the online ticket form.
Winemaker Symposium in the Barrel Room
Join an intimate, unscripted conversation with three of our best local winemakers in the Nevada City Winery barrel room. Winemakers Mark Henry from Montoliva, Jackson Starr from Sierra Starr and the dean of Nevada County winemakers, Mark Foster from Nevada City Winery, will sit on the panel that will be moderated by Rod Byers. The topic for discussion will focus on the future of winemaking in our region and the need, or not, for a flagship varietal.
The Barrel Room event is free but you will need a ticket to get into the barrel room. The only way to get a ticket is to purchase your tickets to Nevada City Uncorked. Tickets are limited. They will be available until they are not. If you think you will attend the reception or want tickets to the Barrel Room be sure to check the boxes on the online ticket form.
Uncorked ticket prices are $35 in advance, $45 day of, and $30 for Wine Club members of participating wineries. Nevada City Uncorked is sponsored by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce.
click here to purchase tickets and find information including lists of participating wineries and food purveyors.
Follow us on facebook@nevada city uncorked wine and food experience, to keep abreast of all event details.

In the meantime, mark August 24th and August 25th on your calendar.
