Coffee & Pastry Houses

During the Gold Rush, there were many opportunities for women in the cities and gold fields, as men willingly paid extravagant fees to buy products that were made by women. There are several stories of women making more money selling homemade pies, doughnuts, etc. than their husbands made mining.
Some women made their fortune as entrepreneurs.

Today, the tradition continues, as Caroline Fike, Robin Spencer, Susan Copelan, and Amy Cooke run their family-owned bakeries and coffee houses. Their warm and welcoming gathering places enrich the quality of life for the community.
